Cricket Information Cricket Origins are unknown but it is believed it originated from England around the 12th-13th century, and became popular sports by end of 17th century. In 1744 London Cricket Club came into existence and the first set of cricket rules were written. The Marylebone Cricket Club (established in 1787) is the Cricket international governing body. Rules of CricketThe size of Pitch measures about 525 ft (160m) by 550 ft(170 m). Wickets are placed 22 yards (66 ft)(20.12 m) apart. Wicket consists of two wooden crosspieces on three wooden stumps 28 in (71.1 cm) high. Ball is made up of hard leather. If bowler is able to deliver the ball near the opposite wicket and knocks down the bails of batsman's wicket, batsman is out. In bowling the ball bowler can't bend his arm and ball usually approaches the batsman on one bounce. If batsman hits the ball with his bat far away then both batsman chase for the maximum number of possible runs. When ball goes to a long distance upto four runs may be made. If ball crosses boundary of the field on ground four runs are scored and if it crosses boundary in air six runs are scored. If the opposite team catches the ball and knocks down bails of wicket before batsman reaches that batsman is considered as out. If opposing fielder catches ball on fly then also the batsman is out. Substitutes are allowed on injury Present Status At the recent 2007 Cricket World Cup organized by ICC (The International Cricket Council) in West Indies , Australia won the Title beating Sri Lanka at Bridgetown, Barbado by 53 runs. |
